It’s been a year since AFSCME launched “Staff the Front Lines,” a bold effort to fill public service jobs with qualified people dedicated to strengthening our communities.
Check out our website to learn about the progress we’ve made and the work still left to do.
Our bus tour last summer created a lot of buzz. Everywhere we went, 17 cities in all, we sent a message loud and clear: come work with us. Apply for jobs that come with good wages and benefits, jobs that allow you to make a difference. We organized hiring events. We did aggressive community outreach. We partnered with employers nationwide.
And we’re making progress. After a huge drop in hiring early in the pandemic, we’re seeing a bounce back. But we’ve got to keep it up. Understaffing continues to take its toll, especially on current public service workers who are buckling under the pressure of trying to do more with less.
Working together, we WILL Staff the Front Lines.
In solidarity,
Lee Saunders
