Dear
  John,

On Monday, April 20th, at 8 p.m. ET, Dr. Jason Jewell will lead a first-of-its-kind online reading group of Russell Kirk's Concise Guide to Conservatism. During this free video-based discussion, Dr. Jewell will cover the major themes of the book and have time for Q & A with participants.

If you’re not yet familiar with this slim book, here is what Dr. David Urban, Professor of English at Calvin University, recently shared:

"The Concise Guide proved to be the perfect text for already busy students to read and discuss as we sought to better understand Kirk’s vision of conservatism grounded in the Permanent Things. The short, user-friendly chapters are expertly arranged in a way that builds on the foundations of the ‘Essence of Conservatism’ and ‘Conservatives and Religious Faith’ to address perennially relevant subjects such as conscience, individuality, family, community, just government, private property, and education. Indeed, students regularly commented on how relevant this 1957 book was to our present situation."

If you would like to engage the ideas in this book along with other thoughtful readers, we encourage you to complete our sign up form before April 17.

The discussion group will convene from 8 - 9 p.m. ET, for a period of eight weeks using the Google Hangouts platform. If you plan to join using your smart phone, you may want to download the Hangouts app.

If you don’t yet have a copy of
the book, please order one and read the first chapter or two for best use of your time with Dr. Jewell. You may also find helpful the discussion questions penned by Kirk Center Senior Fellow Bruce Frohnen that we shared on the Kirk on Campus blog.

While the COVID-19 outbreak has made gathering in person impossible for now, we do look forward to seeing many of you online later this month.

May you and your "little platoon" be well,

Annette Kirk, President
The Russell Kirk Center

P.S. To ensure the quality of the group discussion, we have a limited number of spots available for this reading group. If you would like to join, we'd encourage you to act quickly to reserve your spot. Happy reading!
