Ruth’s List is excited to announce our latest endorsements – Marsha Summersill, running for Florida HD-39 in Seminole and Orange counties, and Emily Rodrigues, running for Florida HD-98 in Broward County!
An Apopka native, Marsha Summersill has spent her almost 20-year long career in child welfare as a dedicated advocate for Florida children and families. She has been a child abuse investigator for the Department of Children and Families, and she led the Child Protection Team for Orange and Osceola counties, serving as an assistant manager at the Orange County Children's Advocacy Center and as the attorney for Children's Legal Services. Marsha’s campaign is deeply personal, driven by the tragic loss of her beloved brother due to inadequacies and shortfalls within Florida’s healthcare system, fueling her determination to advocate for comprehensive healthcare reforms and address the critical shortage of healthcare professionals.
Born and raised in Oakland Park, Emily Rodrigues would bring firsthand experience and a powerful voice to the Florida Legislature as a former legislative aide to State Senator Shevrin Jones. Right now, she oversees the digital strategy for several nonprofit and political clients, where she has helped Democrats achieve record-breaking fundraising goals. Emily’s call to public service is deeply personal as a survivor of sexual assault on her college campus. She turned her experience into action and has become a dedicated advocate for victims’ rights on college campuses and beyond. Emily is the only woman running to keep this important Democratic seat, and if elected would be one of the only members of the legislature who identifies as Brazilian American and one of the youngest members of the Florida House.
