John,
During these uncertain times, we are undeniably anxious and concerned about our MCV community across the state, and we truly hope you and your family are safe and healthy.
We're writing today because we wanted to alert you to an urgent anti-science threat to our environment in the Trump administration — and we need your help. As the nation continues to reel from the coronavirus pandemic, the Environmental Protection Agency is quietly pushing forward with its proposed "restricted science" rule — a politically-motivated policy that would restrict certain kinds of scientific studies and research when drafting environmental and public health regulations.
These kinds of restrictions on science — especially during a public health crisis where frontline health care workers and public health officials rely on science-based policy and solutions to guide their work — is reckless and dangerous.
The EPA is currently accepting public comments on this rule change, and we must speak out in numbers to protect our environment and public health.
Tell the EPA: Don't restrict science in the rule-making process. Click here to submit your public comment. [[link removed]]
In addition to limiting science in public health policy, this new restricted science rule could undermine critical environmental regulations. Laws like the Clean Air Act, Safe Drinking Water Act, and Toxic Substances Control Act are rooted in research that definitively links pollution and harmful health impacts -- research fossil fuel companies and other polluting industries would love to dismiss. They’ve been lobbying the Trump administration to eliminate important regulations that affect their bottom lines, and this rule is their latest attempt.
The Trump administration is exploiting the COVID-19 crisis to suspend enforcement of environmental regulations, roll back clean car standards, and now weaken the role of science in decision making. Join us to tell the Trump administration that the restricted science rule goes against EPA’s mission to protect our health and environment. Click the link here to submit your public comment. Thank you for speaking out, and we hope you and your family are safe and well.
-Kathleen
