Dear John,
The climate crisis is here. Those of us experiencing record heat, storms, drought, floods and more already know this to be true. And as I explain in my new op-ed in Salon, it’s crucial that we recognize the climate crisis as the reproductive rights emergency that it truly is.
Ipas’s research around the world shows that the climate crisis undermines the right to have a child, to not have a child, and to parent children in safe and healthy environments. Across diverse settings, we’ve documented consistent harms to sexual and reproductive health, including an increase in sexual and gender-based violence, child marriage, unintended pregnancy, abortion with unsafe methods, and maternal and infant deaths.
I invite you to read my op-ed in Salon and learn more about why we must ensure that sexual and reproductive health and rights are included in all plans to address climate change.
Ipas is hard at work with local partners doing exactly this. You can read about how we support women-led climate solutions on our website.
In solidarity,
Anu Kumar
