Following the 2019 destruction of the site's museum by a tornado,?Caddo Mounds State Historic Site will celebrate its official reopening on Saturday, May 18. The ribbon-cutting ceremony commences at 11:30 a.m. with speakers reflecting on the importance of restoring the site and the resiliency of the Caddo Nation. Attendees will have the opportunity to explore the new $2.5 million visitor center and reconstructed grass house and participate in a variety of outdoor activities.?
On Saturday, May 18, celebrate the history of the Bluff Schuetzenverein, a German marksmanship and social organization which once made its home on the grounds of Kreische Brewery State Historic Site. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the Bluff Scheutzenverein hosted dances, concerts, picnics, and shooting competitions which welcomed people from across Texas. Sites staff and volunteers will commemorate these traditions with a day featuring entertainment, community booths, family activities, living history demonstrations, special tours, food and drink, and more.?
