Friend,
Happy National Day of Prayer!
May 2 is the National Day of Prayer in the United States.
And we have 2 prayer circles for RFK Jr and the campaign for you to
participate in.
The act of prayer is cherished in every tradition and religion,
though the style may vary.
An African proverb says: “When you pray, move your feet.”
Frederick Douglass, the escaped slave who became a leader in the
abolitionist movement, amongst other accomplishments, is known for
this statement, "I prayed for freedom for twenty years, but I
received no answer until I moved my legs."
Rabbi Abraham Heschel, upon marching with Martin Luther King Jr. in
Selma, said,
"For many of us, the march from Selma to Montgomery was about
protest and prayer. Legs are not lips, and walking is not kneeling.
And yet our legs uttered songs. Even without words, our march was
worship. I felt my legs were praying." Rabbie Heschel believed that
prayer was meant to be revolutionary!
When Martin Luther King,
Jr. returned from Selma, he was asked if he had time to pray, and he
said he was "praying with his feet."
Jesus said, “If you have faith like a grain of mustard seed, you
will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will
move, and nothing will be impossible for you.”
The meaning behind these wisdom sayings is that activated prayer is
meant to lead you to take action.
We are living in a river's rising moment in history, and
election day is seven months away so we are each being asked to pray
with our lips and our feet.
We know that future President Robert F. Kennedy Jr. offers a
solution for a better world, a way to thrive for ourselves and future
generations.
