John,

This is Debbie Mucarsel-Powell, and I’m the Democrat running to defeat Rick Scott, serve Floridians as our next U.S. Senator, and defend our Democratic majority.

I’m reaching out to update you on the fight for abortion rights here in Florida — because, perhaps more than anywhere else in the country, the stakes here for reproductive freedom couldn’t be higher.

As I write to you, Ron DeSantis’ six-week abortion ban is going into effect. This ban will create life or death situations for millions of Floridians. Because politicians like DeSantis and my opponent, Rick Scott, are so intent on stripping Floridians of their freedoms, families right now could be subject to untold pain.

But there is hope, John. The Florida Supreme Court has ruled in favor of a ballot initiative to let the people — and not extremist politicians like DeSantis and Scott — decide the future of reproductive rights in Florida this November. If this ballot initiative succeeds, abortion rights will be enshrined into our state constitution, making DeSantis’ abortion ban null and void.

Here’s the truth, John. Despite what the political pundits would have you believe, Florida is NOT a red state. Polling currently shows me NECK AND NECK with Rick Scott and analysts at The New York Times have called him one of the most vulnerable Senators in the country. But Scott spent $64 million of his own fortune to buy Florida’s Senate seat last time around, only winning by 0.12%. I know we can defeat him, but it will take your grassroots support, which is why I’m asking: Will you split a donation between my campaign and Jacky Rosen's to help me protect abortion rights, defeat Rick Scott, and save our Senate majority?

Thank you,

Debbie
