Will you help us? [link removed] PLEASE HELP in this critical time for benefits! [link removed] Dear John,
Like so many other Americans, the National Committee staff and I are working from home during the coronavirus pandemic and I want you to know we remain fully committed to our mission to protect and strengthen Social Security and Medicare.
The urgency of our mission has escalated dramatically, as older Americans are facing growing health- and financially-related threats due to the coronavirus emergency. So in addition to fending off attacks against Social Security and Medicare, we're funneling significant resources into boosting and expanding earned benefits during this time of crisis. But these battles require a lot of personnel, a lot of time researching — and communicating — the truth. It also takes a lot of money, something we can't count on during this unsettled time.

Frankly, any further reduction in resources could weaken our fight on your behalf — at a moment when we need to defend the health and economic security of millions of older Americans, people with disabilities and survivors, and to ensure their needs are addressed in the next coronavirus relief legislation. We cannot accept any other outcome.
That's why I must ask if you will please chip in one urgent gift of $10 or $5 to the National Committee today. Any gift you're safely able to afford would be greatly appreciated and put to immediate use on your behalf. Right now, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is preparing to introduce a fourth economic relief package. [link removed] And the National Committee is fighting to include the following in this legislation:
Increased benefits by $250 per month for all Social Security beneficiaries through the end of 2021
Additional funding to build the Social Security Administration's capacity for coronavirus-related workload demands
Improvements to Social Security that include increasing average benefits, increasing the threshold for the Special Minimum Benefit to 125% of poverty, reducing taxes on Social Security benefits for lower- and middle-income taxpayers and more
Increased Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits by 15% to help low-income seniors put food on the table
Improved access to prescription refills through Medicare and Medicaid for homebound seniors
Expanded access through Medicaid grants for home and community-based services As you know, the National Committee relies 100% on the donations of individuals like you to fuel our work to protect and strengthen earned benefits. And thanks to your support, we're a force to be reckoned with on Capitol Hill. Just last week we helped reverse a terrible decision by the Treasury Department which would have required Social Security beneficiaries to file a tax return in order to receive their cash payments as part of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act. The National Committee lobbied hard to ensure beneficiaries would automatically receive their cash payment ($1,200 for individuals/$2,400 for couples) — and we won! [link removed] But let me be blunt for a moment. Our opponents will likely revive the old adage: Never let a crisis go to waste. And some could use this crisis as an opportunity to resurrect dangerous proposals that target Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid with deep cuts and harmful changes ... for instance, slashing the annual Social Security Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA), raising the Social Security retirement age, hiking the Medicare eligibility age or even privatizing these programs. That's why we simply cannot afford to scale back any of our campaigns. So please make one urgent donation today [link removed] to help ensure the National Committee is fully prepared to fight the critical battles that lie ahead. It may be the most important donation you make this year, because it's helping to support the organization that's working to help you. Sincerely, Max Richtman
President & CEO
