A MESSAGE FROM ASSISTANT ATTORNEY GENERAL AMY L. SOLOMON

April at OJP ended with two outstanding events. First, we capped off Second Chance Month [ [link removed] ] with an informative and inspirational panel of current BJA Second Chance Fellows [ [link removed] ], moderated by former Second Chance Fellow and national reentry and social justice advocate Daryl Atkinson.

The current fellows - John Bae, Stanley Frankart and Angel Sanchez - discussed the groundbreaking work they are doing to support reentry policy and programming, from education to housing to building and sustaining a thriving reentry ecosystem. They discussed with Daryl the challenges ahead in reentry and their hope for removing barriers to inclusion for formerly incarcerated individuals. This Second Chance Month event was one of many hosted by the Bureau of Justice Assistance, the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention and the National Institute of Justice.

We have also made new resources available to the field, including a BJA report [ [link removed] ] highlighting positive trends in recidivism reduction since the passage of the Second Chance Act and a new guide to healthcare coverage [ [link removed] ] for individuals returning to their communities from incarceration.

AAG Amy Solomon

The last week of April also marked National Crime Victims' Rights Week [ [link removed]. ]. Director Kris Rose and her team at the Office for Victims of Crime commemorated the week with a moving candlelight vigil attended by the Attorney General and an awards ceremony [ [link removed] ] on the National Mall, where we honored eight exceptional individuals and organizations for their service on behalf of victims of crime.

Read more about these and other exciting activities and products from across OJP - including a new video that guides users through an interactive funding map - in this edition of Justice Programs News and Funding. Thank you for taking the time to follow our work at OJP and for being our partners in community safety.
