Friend,

As a steward of your federal taxpayer dollars, I would like to update you on a recent piece of bipartisan legislation that I introduced in my role as Ranking Member of the House Budget Committee along with Republican Budget Chairman Jodey Arrington.

This week the House unanimously passed H.R. 7032, the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) Data Sharing Act. The legislation will improve CBO's ability to provide Congress and the American people with timely analysis of pending legislation and reports on the federal budget.   It's legislation that may not make the nightly news, but surely one that will make for the best utilization of our collective tax dollars for years to come.

For half a century the Congressional Budget Office has provided lawmakers and the American people with information on the costs of new legislation and our nation’s fiscal health. CBO sometimes faces roadblocks receiving the data they need to do this critical work, and my bill will ensure government agencies are responsive to CBO’s requests. Helping CBO provide more accurate information to Congress helps us make more informed decisions on behalf of the people we represent. In the end, the taxpayer getting the best value for tax dollars is the ultimate winner here.

My CBO Data Sharing Act is now on its way to a Senate vote. I urge my Senate colleagues to send this commonsense legislation to the President's desk so it can become law. I will be sure to update you on the progress of this bill in the weeks to come.

Sincerely
