Governor Lamont, Lt. Governor Bysiewicz and Democrats in Connecticut Need to Act on Yale
MIDDLETOWN — “The rise of blatant antisemitism at Yale University requires action by Governor Ned Lamont, Lt. Governor Susan Bysiewicz, and the Democrats in the Connecticut General
Assembly,” said Ben Proto, Chairman of the Connecticut Republican Party. Their silence on these actions, particularly that of Senate President Martin Looney, who represents the city of New Haven, has been deafening. Their silence provides these antisemitic protestors with the belief that what they say is supported by the Democrats.”
“The leadership of Yale University is complicit in all these antisemitic activities,” continued Proto. “It is time for Governor Lamont, Lt. Governor Bysiewicz, and the Democrat leadership in Hartford to send a clear message to the leadership of Yale and
the students, who are acting with callous indifference to the entire Jewish community, by removing the university’s tax-exempt status and reviewing any other state programs that taxpayers in Connecticut provide to Yale and its affiliated entities.”
“Governor Lamont and Lt. Governor Bysiewicz serve as ex-officio members of the Yale University Board of Trustees, and Governor Lamont is a graduate of Yale University. They have a voice on that board, but rather than standing up and condemning the vile
words and actions made and taken against students, staff, and community members of the Jewish faith, they choose to hide behind their benign comments about protecting free speech when the evidence of hostility toward the Jewish community by these
agitators is self-evident” said Proto.
These agitators, aligned with other domestic terrorist organizations on college campuses across the country, have verbally and physically attacked individuals solely based on their religious beliefs. Make no mistake, these actions are hate crimes, NOT
free speech. It is time to hold these agitators responsible for their words and actions. Governor Lamont, Lt. Governor Bysiewicz, and the Democrats in Hartford need to stand up, speak out, and take action that will show not only Yale and the agitators but also
America and the world that Connecticut will not stand for these hate-filled acts. Remove Yale’s tax-exempt status, and do not allow the taxpayers of Connecticut to subsidize Yale’s multi-billion dollar a year institution by allowing it to receive taxpayer money unless and until it stands up to bigotry and hatred and condemns and stops these antisemitic acts” concluded Proto.
