Do you want to vote, or do you want to live? That’s the choice Wisconsin lawmakers have forced onto the people of the Badger State today.

Gov. Evers tried to do the right thing by delaying today’s primary election and expanding absentee voting. But Republican state legislators and the Wisconsin Supreme Court defied him. Now voters are being forced to choose between not voting at all, or risking their lives and the lives of their loved ones with potential exposure to COVID-19 at the polls.

This is blatant voter suppression and a major threat to public health -- and it didn’t have to be this way.

To cope with the pandemic, many states are shifting to vote-by-mail for the first time to let people vote in the safety of their homes. But some states have been doing this for years.

Washington and Oregon both started using mail-in ballots in the 90s, and the two states lead the nation in voter participation. Turns out, when voting is easy -- more people do it.

That’s why Brand New Congress and our candidates, like Charles Booker (KY-Senate) and Mel Gagarin (NY-06), are calling for nationwide vote-by-mail.

In our 21st Century Bill of Rights we declared that “The right to vote is universal to all citizens” and “all impediments to this right must be eliminated.”

You have a right to equal participation in your government. But until we elect representatives who commit to making the voting process safe and accessible for everyone, we won’t have that.

We are working hard to help our candidates adapt their campaigns to an all-digital operation, and we need your help to give them a fighting chance in the midst of this chaos.
