May is Mental Health Awareness Month, a pivotal moment to spotlight the challenges faced by LGBTQ+ youth and the collective efforts we’re taking to support their well-being. At The Trevor Project, we’ve been diligently analyzing our 2024 National Survey, and the findings reinforce the urgent need for support and action from all of us.

Our newly released survey reveals some startling truths:

More than just numbers, these statistics represent lives, dreams, and potential.

Over 1 in 10 LGBTQ+ young people attempted suicide within the past year, underscoring the vital need for accessible and inclusive mental health care. Half of those who sought help couldn’t access it, calling attention to systemic barriers that must be dismantled and require immediate attention. That's why The Trevor Project's crisis services continue to be a lifeline for LGBTQ+ youth when they need it most.

As we head into Mental Health Awareness Month, let’s unite in our commitment to shattering stigma, amplifying voices, and expanding resources for LGBTQ+ young people nationwide. Together, we can create a world where every young person feels seen, supported, and valued.
