** Iowa Farmers and State Legislators Tell FTC Chair to Keep Koch Industries Out
------------------------------------------------------------

Iowa State Representatives J.D. Scholten, Elinor Levin, and Megan Srinivas joined forces with SiX and the Iowa Farmers Union ([link removed]) (IFU) to organize 100 Midwestern farmers and community members to meet with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) Chair, Lina Khan, in Nevada, Iowa.

These Midwesterners shared what the multinational corporation Koch Industries’ recent acquisition of Iowa Fertilizer Company means for their farms, families, and futures. Read more about the event and what people shared with the Chair here ([link removed]) .


** Reproductive Freedom Leadership Council Members Rally at the Supreme Court
------------------------------------------------------------

Idaho Minority Leaders Senator Melissa Wintrow and House Representative Ilana Rubel united with SiX to deliver remarks outside of the U.S. Supreme Court recently in response to ([link removed]) the Court hearing oral arguments on a case out of Idaho regarding the federal Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act (EMTALA). EMTALA requires that hospitals that participate in Medicare and offer emergency services must 1) screen for an emergency condition, 2) stabilize the patient, and 3) transfer or discharge the patient under specific circumstances. When an abortion is necessary to stabilize the health of a pregnant woman experiencing an emergency medical condition, a physician must provide an abortion under EMTALA with the patient’s express consent.

Legislators learn how to navigate complex challenges, strategically build power, and collectively govern with community and constituents.

** Solidarity with Working Families

May 1 is International Workers’ Day, which began in the 1800’s with a fight for the eight-hour workday. This struggle helped lead to the passage of the 1938 Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). Working families today are organizing and winning ([link removed]) across the country. Most recently, the Fight for $15 campaign rolled out a new name and mission: Fight For a Union ([link removed]) . But a right workers secured through FLSA is now under attack in the states: child labor protections. ** Centering Black Women in Tax Policy Ensures Prosperity for All

The Center on Budget and Policy Priorities just released an essential report “Black Women Best Framework Points the Way to Equitable and Just State Tax Reform ([link removed].) .” Black women sit at the intersection of governing, directly and disproportionately impacted by every policy decision. The Black Women Best framework is an economic principle that puts that fact into practice with a simple proposal that lifts up all boats: when we center the economic well-being of Black women in policymaking, we dismantle structural racism and sexism and consequently create more equitable systems for all. ** A Dangerous, Radical Rewrite of our Constitution

------------------------------------------------------------

The Center for Media and Democracy published a short video ([link removed]) on the radical effort to rewrite the Constitution, highlighting the extremist special interests behind the effort and what's at stake. This push for a Constitutional Convention would put everything on the line: all of our rights and a century of progress in making America a more just society by advancing racial and gender justice, cleaning up the environment, protecting workers’ rights, and providing social security and affordable health insurance.
