I’d like to say thank you, John.
Thanks to the support of this team, we were able to accomplish so much in April, including winning millions of dollars in back wages for workers across New York City!
Today is May Day, also known as International Workers' Day.
This day commemorates the workers who organized their workplaces, fought for, and ultimately cemented the foundational pillars of the workers’ rights movement — from an 8-hour work day and the minimum wage to the right to form a union.
In short, May Day honors the organizing of people to make change.

From the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire to the Great Garbage Strike of 1968, New York City’s history has shown us all that we can accomplish when workers come together — our voices are more powerful as a collective. Right now, we’re seeing workers nationwide organizing and winning in ways we haven't seen in decades, and I'm proud to stand in solidarity with these workers.
May Day is about empowering workers to live with dignity. Not just today, but every day , my work as New York City’s Comptroller is grounded in the core tenet that all employees deserve to be treated with respect.
New York City truly is a labor town, and I can promise that I will never stop fighting for the workers who keep our city thriving.
In solidarity,
Brad
