New York is one of the most diverse states in the nation. Over 800 languages are spoken here, brought by generations of immigrants who built and shaped our communities to become what they are today.
In the past decade, immigrants have filled thousands of vacant positions in fields often understaffed, such as construction and home health. With the current labor shortage and declining birth rates, our newest arrivals will continue to play a vital role in revitalizing our communities and keeping our workforce and economy strong.
Immigrant New Yorkers are essential to New York’s growth and its future. This May Day, let’s show them some love and acknowledge their contributions.
