Dear Press Freedom Supporter,

With pivotal elections looming around the world-including in the
United States-our ability to make informed choices hinges on
whether journalists can bring us the news without fear of reprisal.
With half the world heading to the polls this year, elections bring
increased threats to those who hold power to account.

That's why, for World Press Freedom Day on Friday, May 3, we
urgently need your support

.

Journalists are under siege as they face intimidation, violence, and
censorship. CPJ exists to counter those threats, to advocate on behalf
of journalists, and to safeguard press freedom as the cornerstone of a
just society.

With more than 200 journalists released early from behind bars last
year, and 583 journalists from 59 countries who received crucial
financial and non-financial assistance in the form of safety
workshops, vital trauma support, or help with relocation in dire
circumstances, our work has never been more important.

Ahead of World Press Freedom Day, can you help us again? Your support
is a powerful show of solidarity that ensures journalists can continue
to do their jobs safely and act as our first line of defense against
rising authoritarianism.

Thank you for championing press freedom.

Sincerely,
John D. Weis
Director of Development and Outreach

P.S. I hope you'll consider making a recurring monthly
donation to provide ongoing support for journalists facing threats in
connection with their work.
