Health: Medicaid Language Access
It’s no surprise that Medicaid does not do a great job of making health coverage accessible to people whose primary language isn’t English. Changing that is critical, as language barriers deny millions of people healthcare even though they qualify for Medicaid, and because language access is required by federal law and regulation. Working Group: Research Working Group Meeting May 8th
The May 8th PIF Research Working Group meeting will feature the work of the MinKwon Center for Community Action, which conducted a Health Needs Survey of New York City Asian American adults. The goals of the survey were to inform the strategic planning of public health and preventative health programs at MinKwon and to leverage findings to educate healthcare stakeholders about community needs and effectively advocate for immigrant health policy reform. The findings emphasize the importance of disaggregated racial/ethnic data collection, survey administration in languages other than English, and the role of community-based organizations to appropriately evaluate and respond to community health needs. The meeting will be at 3pm ET on the second Wednesday of the month. Please sign up to be an active member [[link removed]] if you would like to join this call.
