Honoring the Life of Congressman Donald Payne Jr.



We are deeply saddened by the passing of Congressman Donald Payne, a tireless advocate for progressive values and a dedicated public servant for the people of New Jersey. His legacy will forever be remembered through his groundbreaking work in securing funding for clean drinking water projects, championing gun violence prevention measures, and advocating for affordable childcare, housing, and prescription drugs.


Born in Newark, Congressman Payne's journey from a toll collector on the Garden State Parkway to a national leader in Congress exemplifies the American dream. His leadership, integrity, and passion for serving others will be sorely missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, and constituents during this difficult time.



Congressman Payne will lie in state as follows:
Date: Wednesday, May 1, 2024
Time: 12 noon to 12 Midnight (Public Viewing)
Place: Essex County Historic Courthouse 470 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd. Newark, NJ

The funeral service for Congressman Payne will be held as follows: 
Date: Thursday, May 2, 2024
Time: 10 a.m.
Place: Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart 89 Ridge Street Newark, NJ

Recently appointed, Nadya serves as the NJYD South Asian Caucus Chair. She is a proud advocate for youth and women’s political engagement and leadership, extending her passion for mentorship by guiding young women, organizing voter registration drives, and volunteering.


Professionally, she is the Government Relations and Communications Associate at Hoboken Strategy Group, where she facilitates administrative, legislative, and digital operations for a diverse clientele. 


Nadya's journey into policy advocacy began during her college years, where she organized the community for reproductive freedom. Her internship at Hoboken Strategy Group further fueled her passion and deepened her understanding of the New Jersey Legislature. In January 2023, Nadya graduated with a B.S. in Public Policy. Upon graduating, she joined Planned Parenthood Action Fund of New Jersey, where she played a pivotal role in spearheading community and volunteer engagement efforts while advocating for pro-sexual and reproductive health legislation.
