Resilience Recap


This year, we celebrated Earth Day through March and April! Leaders from around the world converged at Aspen Ideas: Climate, including EPA Administrator Michael Regan, who joined me along with MDCPS for the rollout of the school district’s first fleet of fully electric school buses. Our County also dimmed the lights during Dark Sky Week, helped clean up the bay during Baynanza, and planted 80 new trees at North Pointe Community Center for Arbor Day.



Celebrating Pride


Miami-Dade is full of pride! More than 100 county employees marched with me in the annual Miami Beach Pride parade. To our LGBTQIA+ community, Miami-Dade stands and will always stand with you!



Save on Flood Insurance


Starting April 1st, homeowners and businesses in unincorporated Miami-Dade County can get up to a 35% discount on flood insurance! Earlier this year, FEMA upgraded Miami-Dade's ratings as a result of our long-term investments in our infrastructure to manage flooding and stormwater. Call your insurance company to confirm if you are eligible for this discount.



Miami-Dade's Second Poet Laureate


I appointed our county’s second ever poet laureate, and first woman, Caridad Moro-Gronlier! Thank you to Richard Blanco, our first poet laureate, for his dedicated service and his beautiful words. And Caridad, we can’t wait to see what you’ll do!



Building a Future-Ready Community
Housing You Can Afford


Our investments in affordable housing are showing results! In the last two months, we have celebrated groundbreakings or inaugurations of several affordable and workforce housing developments funded by or supported by Miami-Dade County. Construction commenced on affordable housing developments such as Tucker Tower in Palmetto Bay, Vista Breeze on Miami Beach, and Culmer Apartments in Overtown. We also celebrated the first anniversary of the Homeless Trust operating Mia Casa, a community for formerly homeless seniors.



MIA Moves


At Miami International Airport, passenger experience is everything. In the last two months, MIA reopened the Skytrain after going through critical repairs, celebrated the opening of a new glass passenger bridge, and launched the I Am MIA campaign. Look out for the MIA employees in blue vests for a helping hand on your next trip!



A Better-Connected South Dade


Our Department of Transit and Public Works (DTPW) broke ground on the Dadeland South Intermodal Station. This will be the hub from which the Dadeland South Metrorail station connects to the future South Dade TransitWay, scheduled to open this year!



Community Corner
Celebrating Women’s History


Year round, we celebrate #WomenofMiamiDade. During Women’s History Month, I had a chance to visit MDPD’s impressive marine patrol unit and meet their first female diver. We also inducted three trailblazing ladies, Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, Kathy Fernandez Rundle, and Frederica Wilson, to the Miami-Dade County Women’s Hall of Fame.



Tackling Food Insecurity Together


The Food for All Nutrition Collaborative convenes restaurants, nonprofits, businesses, and community members to eradicate food insecurity across our county. My office is proud to be a part of this collaborative – stay tuned for more to come.
