John,

What is happening right now in Wisconsin is unconscionable.

After the Republican legislature refused to postpone the election in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic, voters are being forced to stand in lines today for hours and risk their lives in order to vote.

What’s more, in a last-minute 5-4 decision, the U.S. Supreme Court struck down an attempt to extend absentee voting for six days, despite tens of thousands of Wisconsin voters who reportedly never received the absentee ballot they requested.

This is voter suppression, plain and simple. And no one should have to risk their lives, and the lives of others, in order to exercise their constitutional right to vote.

Voting in this country is not a privilege — it’s a right. But across the country, Republican elected officials and judges are putting people's lives in danger during a pandemic because they believe it will help them politically. And they aren’t even trying to hide it.

In Georgia, the Republican state House Speaker said he opposed sending out absentee ballots to every voter because it would "be extremely devastating to Republicans and conservatives."

And just last week, Trump said — out loud — that making it easier for people to vote during this pandemic would mean “you’d never have a Republican elected again.”

As we are seeing today in Wisconsin, the consequences of inaction are dire. Congress must act now, before even more voters' lives are put in jeopardy.
