What is hidden in your Easter basket?

Friend,

During these difficult times, chocolate can provide a delicious comfort. But, we want to ensure we buy chocolate that respects cocoa farming communities and conservation of their lands.

Plus, with Easter being the largest chocolate buying holiday, Green America teamed up with Mighty Earth and Be Slavery Free to publish a joint scorecard on global chocolate companies, ranking them on how they are (or aren’t) working to end environmental and labor abuses in the industry.

With our new scorecard, you can purchase chocolate knowing which big and small companies are supporting cocoa farmers and their families

We surveyed the world’s largest chocolate companies and evaluated them on six of the biggest issues facing the chocolate industry: child labor, living income, deforestation, agroforestry, due diligence regulation, and transparency and traceability.

Godiva received one of the worst scores, earning it the Rotten Egg Award.

Tony's Chocolonely received the highest score and the Good Egg Award! And, Alter Eco, a Green Business Member, scored green eggs across the board!

While we have seen some positive movement in the last year, there is still a long way to go! As companies like Tony’s Chocolonely and our Green Business Members are working to end child labor and demonstrating that the business model of treating cocoa farmers fairly is possible, we cannot let the laggards, like Godiva, go unnoticed!

Tell Godiva we have had enough – they must do more to end child labor in the cocoa industry!

And buy your chocolates from the companies that are leaders for farmers, children, and the environment.

Thank you for all that you do, and I hope you and your loved ones are staying healthy!
