The stakes for 2024 are high. You know that. We see that every single day. This month, we have observed the threats to American democracy and to our freedom in so many ways.
Just this month, the Arizona Supreme Court issued a ruling reinstating a 160-year-old abortion ban that puts patients in need of care and doctors who provide that care at risk. In New York, the historic criminal trial of a former U.S. President began while in Washington the U.S. Supreme Court heard arguments about whether the President should have absolute immunity from criminal prosecution.
In legislatures across the country, we see continued attacks on freedom. And in Congress, we’ve seen utter dysfunction as some House Republicans continue with their effort to oust the Speaker of the House again. They do so, in part, because the House Speaker let the House vote on a bill to provide aid to our allies in Ukraine fighting for democracy and self-determination against Russia. That is, Ukrainians are fighting for fundamental American values.
I voted for that bill, and last week, President Biden signed it into law. We can be glad about that while at the same time recognizing that it did not have to happen as it did—long delayed and thwarted time and again. The consequences of the delays are real. As are the threats to democracy. And all of this is on the ballot.
Each week, we see how important it is that Democrats take back the House, gain ground in the Senate, and hold on to the White House so that we can ensure responsible leadership focused on what matters most to the American people.
I know from experience that we can meet this moment and change the course we are on, but we can only do it when each of us shows up in every way we can. On this team, that includes our work to defend this seat in 2024 and to help take back the House and hold the Senate.
We’re working as hard as ever to do our part, and that means reaching the goals we set, including our April fundraising goal. Our deadline is midnight tonight. If you can help, I hope you will consider making a contribution before the end of the night.
Together, we can do anything,
