Friend,
In public schools, today's lessons build tomorrow's leaders.
Yet, too many radical Republican legislators are demanding our public schools and teachers do more with less. GOP lawmakers would prefer to direct taxpayer funds to unaccountable private and charter schools than ensure public schools have the resources they need. Instead of making sound investments in public education, Republicans are trying to amend our constitution to funnel taxpayer dollars into unaccountable private schools. It amounts to nothing but a handout for the wealthiest Kentuckians who can already afford private school tuition.
We’ve seen the outcome of this experiment in other states, like North Carolina and New Hampshire. Private schools teach whatever they want, whether the lessons help students or not. Taxpayer dollars go unaccounted. It’s a total disaster. States like Tennessee and Texas have already abandoned the failed idea.
We need to respond in November by voting down this amendment, making it clear that public dollars belong in public schools– period.
Please consider donating to Kentucky Democrats' work to reach voters across the Commonwealth about how their vote can protect the future of public education. [[link removed]]

Sixty percent of Kentucky counties lack certified private schools. Kentucky’s rural communities — and the students who call them home — would be the hardest hit if this becomes law in November. Public schools are the largest employer in many of our state's counties and are a vital source of income for families. Draining them of funds would amount to a financial catastrophe and create an unnecessary strain on local economies.
Together, we can ensure that every child in Kentucky has access to a quality public education.
Thank you for your support,
Jacqueline Coleman
Lt. Governor of Kentucky
