The White House delays
rule to
end the sale
of menthol cigarettes.
I’m disappointed by the news.
President Biden delayed action to end the sale of menthol cigarettes. Every day he fails to finalize these rules, he misses the opportunity to significantly reduce
death and disease associated with tobacco use.
This lack of action will further increase health disparities by giving the
tobacco industry more time to increase profits by targeting and hooking
members of historically underrepresented communities, including Black
individuals and children, to their deadly products.
We won't be deterred. We will continue to push the White House to finalize these rules, and we are taking this
fight to end menthol to the state houses and city halls across the nation.
The Lung Association will continue our work for a tobacco-free
future. We’ll continue advocating to prevent thousands of deaths in
underrepresented communities. We’ll continue championing eliminating
flavored tobacco products on the local, state and federal levels. But we
can’t do this work alone.
