John,

Right now, our health care workers on the frontlines of our fight against
the coronavirus don’t have the basic personal protective equipment (PPE)
they need to keep themselves safe and stop the transmission of this
disease.

By now we’ve all seen the stories of nurses reusing N95 respirators,
wearing garbage bags over their scrubs, and working with improvised
equipment to save lives.

The United States is the wealthiest country in the history of the world.
Sending our frontline health care workers out to fight this pandemic
without the protective equipment they need is a national disgrace.

We have the ability to get PPE in the hands of our health care workers,
but President Donald Trump is sitting on his hands. He could invoke the
Defense Production Act today to expand our manufacturing capacity and get
this done.

That’s why DFA is partnering with National Nurses United to demand
President Trump use his power to invoke the Defense Production Act and
immediately manufacture the PPE our health care workers across the country
need right now.

We’re at war against a pandemic, but our president is refusing to begin
the kind of wartime mobilization we need to protect our health care
workers on the frontlines. It’s inexcusable.

Trump’s failure to act is putting health care workers at risk of illness
and death. When they are exposed to the coronavirus, health care workers
risk transmitting it to the patients under their care, their families, and
their communities.

That kind of widespread transmission puts our entire health care system at
risk of collapse.

The bottom line is this: if we fail to protect our health care workers, we
will fail to contain the coronavirus.

immediately and get PPE into the hands of our health care providers. Add

Thank you for raising your voice on this crucial issue. In this time of
crisis, we all have to come together on behalf of the people fighting the
pandemic on the frontlines. Please stay safe and healthy.

All my best,

— Yvette
