<[link removed]> Gravel Lake near North Bend, Washington, as taken by ConservAmerica Senior Policy Advisor Quill Robinson. As April draws to a close, we’re marveling at how quickly the months are flying by! Probably because we have so much good stuff going on. We recently hosted a great chat <[link removed]> with Senate Environment and Public Works Committee Ranking Member (and Roosevelt Conservation Caucus member) Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV). Sen. Capito discussed her ADVANCE Act <[link removed]> , which seeks to develop and deploy advanced nuclear energy, and the LNG export ban along with many other topics. You can watch it here <[link removed]> . Also in Roosevelt Caucus member news, House Natural Resources Chair Bruce Westerman’s America’s Wildlife Habitat Conservation Act (H.R. 7408 <[link removed]> ) passed out of committee <[link removed]> earlier this month. His bill would provide grant funding and give states other support to enact their congressionally mandated wildlife action plans. We spoke about it with him last month – you can check it out here <[link removed]> . As we teased in last month’s newsletter, we officially launched our Roosevelt Conservation Fellowship <[link removed]> program. The program is designed to bring new perspectives to the discussion, and our two inaugural fellows, Alina Clough and Patrick Hynes, are already accomplishing that goal. Patrick’s “Is Biden’s War on LNG the New Anti-Nuclearism” was recently published in Real Clear Energy <[link removed]> and Alina’s “How Nixon Can Secure Our Energy Grid from Beyond the Grave” was published in The Washington Times <[link removed]> . Separately, we wrote about whether Climate Action Can Survive Another Trump White House <[link removed]> , and about California’s Misguided Locomotive Rule <[link removed]> . And speaking of the misguided locomotive rule, we joined C3 Solutions and American Conservation Coalition in submitting comments <[link removed]> to the Environmental Protection Agency this month, urging them to deny the California Air Resources Board’s request for a waiver of federal preemption under section 209 of the Clean Air Act. You can read our comments here <[link removed]> . Lastly, in April we hosted a congressional briefing on the implementation of the Inflation Reduction Act’s Clean Hydrogen Tax Credit. We had four expert panelists and a nice turnout of attendees. If you’re a congressional staffer who would like to be included in future briefings, please let us know <mailto:[email protected]?subject=Congressional%20Briefings%20List> ! That’s it from us this month. We hope wherever you are reading this from, you are enjoying some springtime weather and warm sunshine! <[link removed]> ConservAmerica Chats with Sen. Shelley Moore Capito <[link removed]> ConservAmerica President Jeff Kupfer sat down recently with Roosevelt Conservation Caucus member and Ranking Member on the US Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works (EPW), Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV). Sen. Capito was also a recipient of ConservAmerica’s 2022 Congressional Leadership Award. With utilities doubling their forecasts for new power demand in the next five years, ensuring grid stability will require much more power supply. Read More <[link removed]> <[link removed]> ConservAmerica, C3 Solutions, and ACC Oppose Locomotive Rule <[link removed]> ConservAmerica, along with C3 Solutions and American Conservation Coalition, submitted comments <[link removed]> this week to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) on whether the California Air Resources Board’s In-Use Locomotive Regulation meets the criteria for a waiver of federal preemption under section 209 of the Clean Air Act. Read More <[link removed]> <[link removed]> ConservAmerica Urges the EPA to Reject California’s Misguided Locomotive Rule <[link removed]> We have often seen how overly aggressive environmental regulations can hinder economic growth and innovation – and contrary to their purported goals - even increase pollution. The EPA is now weighing whether to allow California to move forward with strict emissions standards for locomotives that unfortunately would have economic ramifications well beyond the state’s borders and likely increase emissions. Read More <[link removed]> <[link removed]> Can Climate Action Survive Another Trump White House? <[link removed]> Energy leaders, dignitaries, and policy makers from 85 countries descended upon Houston last month for CERAWeek 2024 where the focus on energy transition and reduction in global carbon emissions has grown in urgency. Read More <[link removed]> <[link removed]> Commentary: Is Biden’s War on LNG the New Anti-Nuclearism? <[link removed]> In the aftermath of the 1979 Three Mile Island nuclear accident, then-Senator Joe Biden voted for a “temporary pause <[link removed]> ” on reactor permitting, despite no credible evidence of public harm from radiation. Although the measure failed, the nuclear industry never recovered from this political overreaction based on exaggerated fears.
