A personal appeal to anyone who can vote in the upcoming European Elections:

Dear John,

I know that, in many ways, this is a frustrating email to receive. Best for Britain supporters more than anyone will be wishing that they can vote in the upcoming European Parliament elections. But it is for that reason that I know you will understand just how important it is that those who can vote, do so. So please read on.

We are proud to share the European Parliament's new film, released this week, encouraging European Union citizens across the world to #UseYourVote.

The first time I watched this new campaign, I couldn't help but be slightly overcome with emotion. When my Hungarian grandfather was confronted with Soviet tanks rolling into Budapest in 1956, he would not have been able to imagine that one day in the future his half-Scottish grandson would be able to fight back against the rise of the far right simply by voting in a pan-European election.

He also couldn't have imagined that peace between the European nations would last so long. And he would be deeply disappointed that after so much progress, there would be those within Europe determined to take us back to the days of demagogues and destruction.

This film features stories that mirror that of my family in various conflicts in recent European history. And it's almost certain that your family will be represented too.

So I am asking you to take the time to share this with your followers, so that they may remind their grandparents and grandchildren to use their vote in these elections. Or risk others deciding for them.
