Every two years, my colleagues say "the stakes couldn't be higher" and "this is the most important election of our lives."

They're old, worn out clichés — but please, believe me when I say it today: the stakes really have never been higher.

If they're given more power, Republicans will certainly roll back decades of progress. And if they hold the House, take the Senate, and, god forbid, reelect the former guy, the democratic fabric that our nation was founded upon will be a distant memory.

I'm not being hyperbolic, John. I really don't want to imagine what a Donald Trump White House and a subservient Republican Congress would mean for our country.
