Representative Adriano Espaillat Applauds U.S. Secretary Pete Buttigieg for Ongoing Support of Second Avenue Subway, Phase II
"The U.S. Department of Transportation, under Secretary Pete Buttigieg's leadership, has steadily invested in our transportation workforce and efforts to ensure safety, advance equity, protect our climate, and address some of the most pressing transportation priorities facing our nation today."
WASHINGTON, DC — Representative Adriano Espaillat (NY-13) issued the following statement on today's U.S. Department of Transportation budget hearing with the Honorable Secretary Pete Buttigieg:
"I am grateful to Secretary Buttigieg for his ongoing efforts in support of the Second Avenue Subway project in my district. This is fortified by his recent proposed investment of nearly $500 million to ensure the successful implementation of the project's federal Full-Funding Grant Agreement. This significant allocation represents a crucial step forward in advancing what has become the nation's largest transit equity project, and the Secretary's unwavering commitment working with my office and local leaders to champion this vital initiative, particularly in the historically redlined community of Harlem, has not gone unnoticed.
"Together, we are improving transportation infrastructure and addressing long-standing disparities by ensuring equitable access to reliable transit for all residents. Secretary Buttigieg's dedication to the Second Avenue Subway project underscores the importance of federal and state collaboration to invest in communities that have been historically underserved.
"On behalf of all those who will benefit from this transformative project throughout New York's 13th congressional district, I extend my heartfelt thanks to Secretary Buttigieg and the Biden administration for the support and partnership in advancing transportation equity and opportunity in my district and in communities across our nation."
