Explorer Piero Amodio studies the behavior of non-human animals as a tool to unravel fundamental aspects of their minds, and to foster empathy towards fellow inhabitants of the planet. As a National Geographic Explorer, Amodio is leading the first scientific expedition to study the larger striped Pacific octopus, an elusive species exhibiting unique social features. His team will work with local fishermen in Mexico to locate and collect behavioral and ecological data on this fascinating octopus.

Explorer Shireen Rahimi is an underwater filmmaker, marine anthropologist, and the founder and executive producer of Lightpalace Productions. She specializes in science communication and visual storytelling with an emphasis on poetry and emotion. Through her work, Rahimi is dedicated to uplifting the marginalized voices of our ocean, and telling stories that encourage action and healing around our current ecological crisis.
