John,
Last night, the Wisconsin State Supreme Court overturned Governor Tony Evers’ executive order to move the state’s primary election to June as a result of the coronavirus, forcing voters to go to the polls today.
In addition, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that absentee ballots must be postmarked today, April 7 – even though thousands of Wisconsin voters still haven’t received their mail ballots due to such increased demand.
This is, in essence, a new poll tax: having voters choose between voting or their health and the health of others. Due to a lack of 7,000 poll workers, Milwaukee’s number of polling places has been reduced from 180 to just 5, creating even more crowded polling places. Not only will many voters not show up to the polls at all in fear it will threaten their or their family’s health, but many voters who haven’t even received their ballots to vote by mail now have to decide if they will risk voting in person.
No one should have to risk their lives to make their vote count.
This is pure voter suppression, and it’s part of a larger movement by the GOP and President Trump to keep voters from voting because, as some Republicans have even admitted, they’re afraid of losing when more voters vote.
It’s clear that even during a pandemic, our elections are under attack, and we can’t just sit on the sidelines and watch. Voto Latino is committed to standing up and speaking out for voters’ rights and registering 1 million new voters – it’s more important than ever.

We need a wave of new voters ahead of November, and we will need them to request their mail ballots where they can early on, to ensure they can safely cast a ballot. Voto Latino is not letting the coronavirus slow down our mission, and we need your support to ensure that Latinx voters are registered and ready to vote by mail.
Thanks for defending our democracy with us.
En solidaridad,
Sandra Sánchez
