The Democratic Party
-----------------------
Samuel --

When white supremacists and Nazis march in our streets, wearing
swastikas and chanting racist slogans, threatening to burn synagogues
and committing violent acts of terrorism, simply denouncing them does
not go far enough. We must also hold accountable all those who embrace
these elements of our society or embolden their cause.

Donald Trump has allowed white supremacists, neo-Nazis, and the Ku
Klux Klan to find a home in the Republican Party. First through his
silence in the immediate aftermath of Charlottesville and then with his
words since, he has given them cause to feel empowered.

So it is not enough for the Republican Party to reject their hateful ideology
-- they must also renounce Donald Trump.

Yesterday, I sent a letter to the Chairwoman of the Republican Party to
remind her that her party has to not only reject the white supremacists
but also the enabler they have found in Donald Trump.

You can read the letter below, and then sign your name next to mine
-- call on the Republican Party to join us on the right side of history
and disavow Donald Trump:

As Democrats, we will keep fighting against racism and oppression in all its
forms, and we will never stop working to lift up our Democratic values that
make this country great.

Thank you,

Tom

Tom Perez
Chair
Democratic National Committee

--------

Dear Chairwoman McDaniel,

When we met in July, you said: "We have to have reasonable discussions,
have a dialogue, be respectful of each other."

In recent days, some of the least reasonable, least respectful members of
our society have risen to prominence with a message of pure hatred. They
chanted racist and anti-Semitic slurs. They wore swastikas, made the Nazi
salute, and celebrated symbols of slavery and mass genocide. They instilled
fear in our communities and they murdered a woman in a clear act of domestic
terrorism.

The leader of your Republican Party, President Trump, responded first with
silence, then with begrudging condemnation, and most recently with words
that embolden white supremacy. He tore open the scars of history while
creating a dangerous false equivalency between those upholding racism and
those fighting to defeat it.

Madam Chairwoman, the white hoods are gone. They march in torchlight now,
unafraid to show their faces. They see the president as their leader and fiercest
defender.

There is no denying that these white supremacists, neo-Nazis, and the Ku Klux
Klan have made their home in this president's Republican Party. As chairwoman,
you bear a responsibility not just to reject hateful ideology generally, but to hold
accountable the individuals in your party who have allowed that ideology to flourish.

You bear a responsibility to stop Donald Trump.

There are not "many sides" to the issue of white supremacy. There is right and wrong.
Those who gathered in Charlottesville in the name of racism were wrong, and it is up
to all of us to stand up for what is right.

Will history remember your party as one that surrendered to a man who empowered
neo-Nazis? Will history remember you as the chair who allowed white supremacy to
spread with your party's blessing?

Many of America's greatest heroes made the ultimate sacrifice fighting against the
same evil ideology on the rise today. Party affiliation had nothing to do with it. If you
share their patriotism, you should disavow President Trump now.

Last weekend, the American people  -- Democrats and Republicans alike  -- saw the
streets of Charlottesville flood with evil. They heard the bloodthirsty chants of bigotry.
And they are demanding action. It's time for both of our parties to unite against these
white supremacists and all of their enablers  --  including the president of the United
States. Will you join us on the right side of history?
