Hi John, it’s Shawn — Sister District’s Organizing and Political Director.
It’s an exciting (and busy) time for us! Last week, we rolled out our first candidate endorsements of 2024, and our team is hitting the ground running to do what we do best:
Raise resources, mobilize volunteers, and provide tailored strategic support to phenomenal candidates running in the highest-impact state legislative races across the country.
Like I said, our candidates are phenomenal, and I want to share a little bit more about each of them. But first, can you split a donation to support our candidates and our work at Sister District to build progressive power in the states? There’s a big end-of-month fundraising deadline tomorrow, so your support couldn’t come at a better time.

Let me introduce you to our eight candidates and explain why their races are so important:
Rep. Judy Schwiebert is running to flip the Senate seat in Arizona LD-2. As a former public school teacher, Judy has been a vocal champion for fully funding public education in Arizona. This could be the tie-breaking seat on the path to flipping the AZ Senate!
Kevin Volk is a first-time candidate running to flip a seat in the House in Arizona LD-17. Kevin understands the issues impacting his neighbors, from water to affordable housing to protecting a woman’s right to choose. This flip would be one of two needed for Democrats to take control of the AZ House for the first time since 1966.
Sen. Dallas Harris is running for re-election in Nevada SD-11, a newly drawn seat that GOP Gov. Lombardo has named his top target in 2024. As State Senator, she’s taken on tough fights on reproductive freedom, gun safety, and maternal mental health. To win this seat, she’ll have to introduce herself to new voters and fight back against right-wing attacks.
Assemblywoman Brittney Miller has served in the Nevada State Assembly since 2018 and is now running for re-election in AD-5. Brittney, a 5th-grade math teacher, understands the importance of prioritizing public education. She needs to run another robust campaign to keep this seat in Democratic hands!
Sen. Lisa Grafstein is an incumbent running in North Carolina SD-13, a newly drawn district. As a civil rights attorney, Lisa has fought for those who are often voiceless and will continue to govern with that in mind. Democrats must elect Lisa and pick up one more seat to break the GOP supermajority in the State Senate.
Rep. Patty Kim is running for Pennsylvania SD-15 to finish what she started in the Pennsylvania House and continue the fight for working families. This is a must-win, top-target seat if Democrats want to flip control of the PA Senate and deliver a blue trifecta.
Anna Thomas is running in Pennsylvania HD-137 against a 14-year incumbent to build a stronger economy, protect our personal freedoms, and advocate for a quality public education. A win here will grow the narrow one-seat Democrat majority in the PA House.
LuAnn Bird is running for Wisconsin AD-61. She challenged Rep. Bob Donavan in 2022, narrowly losing that election. Now with fairer maps, LuAnn is running again in a seat that Democrats must win to take control of the WI State Assembly.
Thank you for reading about our candidates, John. If you are as fired up as we are here at Sister District to win every one of these highly competitive races — split a contribution before tomorrow’s end-of-month fundraising deadline.
More soon!
