Have you been paying attention to Arizona John?

Earlier this month, the Arizona Supreme Court revived a law from 1864 that forbids abortion with no exceptions for rape or incest and punishes anyone who performs an abortion with jail time. With this court decision, Arizona joined 16 other states where abortion is virtually outlawed.

In response to the news, Voto Latino President María Teresa Kumar had this to say:

“The near-total abortion ban in Arizona demonstrates the danger that the MAGA extremists pose to women across the country. The Republicans are showing us every day why it’s so important to not only defeat Trump, who paved the way for the reversal of Roe v. Wade, but every candidate aligned with him up and down the ballot.

For Latino voters in Arizona, this is what we do know: Abortion is a top and relevant issue. [This] court decision sounds the alarm of what’s on the ballot in November – our freedom.”

More recently, Democrats in the Republican-controlled Arizona state House passed a repeal of the near-total abortion ban. The state Senate is expected to vote on the repeal in the coming weeks, after the bill comes on the floor.

While this is a win for Democratic lawmakers, we still have an opportunity to enshrine abortion in the state constitution this November.

Voto Latino is committed to registering and mobilizing young Latino voters in battleground states — especially ones where abortion will be on the ballot. Protecting reproductive rights is an important issue for our community. We NEED to make our voices heard on Election Day.

Every $24 donation helps us register one new young Latino voter in a swing state like AZ. Can you chip in $24, or any amount, today and support us in our voter outreach efforts?
