Student Encampments Remain Standing at Columbia

From the fight for black civil rights to the Vietnam War, student protests have always been a powerful avenue for change. This past week, we have seen **over a hundred protests at campuses around America**, calling for change in our relationship to Israel. At the center of it all is Columbia University, where student protestors have set up encampments. Gen Z is truly reminding us what leadership looks like.
Columbia has issued an order to suspend protestors who refuse to dismantle their encampment by 2pm today, representing the latest escalation in the ongoing standoff between university administrators and the protestors. Tensions last boiled over on **April 18 when approximately 100 demonstrators were arrested by the New York City police**. Since then, pro-Palestinian protests have risen across college campuses nationwide, sparking arrests at institutions such as Virginia Tech, Case Western Reserve University, and the University of Georgia, as reported by local sources. According to a tally by The Washington Post, **the total number of individuals arrested on campuses nationwide over the past fortnight has been more than 1,000.**
At Columbia University, the encampment has become emblematic of student frustration and determination to draw attention to the plight of Palestinians. Despite mounting pressure from university authorities, including the threat of suspension, the protestors remain resolute in their demands for change. Their persistence underscores the depth of their commitment to amplifying the voices of the marginalized and holding institutions accountable for their actions.
