John—
In a clear misstep last week, New York’s appellate court overturned Harvey Weinstein’s 2020 rape conviction. To be clear, the court did NOT rescind Weinstein’s culpability, but found fault in how the original judge allowed testimony about crimes not on trial.
This is devastating news for the courageous women who came forward at great personal risk to tell their stories of sexual abuse against Weinstein and for survivors everywhere who have ever felt silenced by those in power. To them I say, you are not alone and we will continue fighting for you.
The TIME'S UP Legal Defense Fund, housed at NWLC, was created in the aftermath of the first accusations against Weinstein and has since funded hundreds of cases to hold abusers accountable. Will you rush a donation to show that one case will not define our collective fight by supporting survivors of sex harassment and retaliation in the workplace?

NWLC’s President and CEO Fatima Goss Graves put it best, “We will always be greater than those who seek to exert power over us.” The TIME’s UP Legal Defense Fund will never stop fighting to defend the power of survivors. Thank you for supporting our movement.

Subject: Six years since #MeToo
Dear John,
Six years.
That’s how many years it’s been since #MeToo went viral and the Harvey Weinstein story broke. I remember the gut-wrenching feeling of reading heartbreaking story after story and the immediate need to do something to help which brought me to the National Women’s Law Center. I'm proud to lead the TIME'S UP Legal Defense Fund, housed at NWLC, which was created in the aftermath of #MeToo to support survivors of sex harassment and retaliation in the workplace.
For the past six years, thousands of survivors have contacted us to share their stories, and we do our best to support survivors and hold their abusers accountable by providing funding for their legal cases and media assistance. We do our best to support survivors and hold their abusers accountable by providing funding for their legal cases and media assistance.
We try to support as many cases as we can—and have funded more than 400 legal cases since we’ve started—but currently, it’s impossible to fund them all. Will you help the TIME’S UP Legal Defense Fund reach even one more case? Every donation will go directly toward legal and media assistance funding for survivors of sexual harassment and retaliation. Your support will help courageous survivors like:
* Laura Zuniga, a truck driver in California who faced severe sexual assault and sex harassment on the job. Laura filed suit against the trucking company and her assailant, a former coworker, alleging sexual and racial harassment and discrimination as well as sexual battery, wrongful termination, and wage theft. In March 2023, the case was settled in her favor.
* Nicole Chase, a former restaurant worker in Connecticut, who faced criminal charges for false reporting when she—truthfully—reported a sexual assault by her boss, the restaurant owner, to the local police. Nicole later filed civil claims of sexual harassment and battery against her boss and the restaurant, as well as claims against the local police department, for false arrest, malicious prosecution, and equal protection violations. In March 2022, Nicole successfully settled her case, including a significant monetary award.
* Approximately 100 women and teenage girls who were subjected to rampant sex harassment by a manager when they worked at a McDonald’s restaurant in Michigan. In August 2022, they successfully settled their class action lawsuit for $1.5 million.
Despite these critical victories, the work to support survivors is far from over. Applications from survivors for legal and media assistance funding haven’t slowed down, showing we still very much live in a world where sex harassment and related retaliation runs rampant. The TIME’S UP Legal Defense Fund actively continues to support ongoing sex harassment and retaliation, but we could help even more. Will you make a donation to support our work? Your gift will have a powerful impact on survivors. [[link removed]]
