I always had a lot of fear and anxiety growing up in a mixed status family. I knew I was safe, but I was so scared that any day would be the day I’d get the call that my parents were detained by ICE.
Every time my parents went to work, went grocery shopping, or left the house, it was a constant fear that lived in the back of my mind.
That’s why I started to speak up. If I’m not fighting for my family, who will?
And the same goes for our community: If we’re not fighting for the future we want, who will?
I envision a bright future for my community: safety from deportation, a pathway to citizenship, access to higher education and in-state tuition, and more.
