It’s impossible to plan for this year’s elections without finding yourself thinking about what will happen if Democrats lose.
I don’t want to write an email about how the sky is falling and all hope is lost – because I just don’t believe that.
But I do want to be realistic about the stakes of these elections.
In the lead-up to 2016, a lot of people said we were “exaggerating” the stakes, or that we were “making too big a deal” out of a potential Trump presidency.
But we knew then – and we know now – that no one was exaggerating. We all watched what Donald Trump did to our country while he was in the Oval Office, and we’re still only starting to experience the devastating consequences of what he was able to do to the Supreme Court.
From the gut-wrenching decision that overturned Roe v. Wade to the painful desecration of our democracy, the impacts of electing Trump and his followers can’t be overstated.
November might feel like it’s a long way off, but the truth is that elections aren’t won on Election Day or even in the final weeks of a race. They’re won by the candidates who are able to build up real resources over the course of a long runway – so they can do the hard work of persuading, educating, and turning out voters.
So that means that NOW is the time to act if we want to prevent Trump and his acolytes – like my opponent – from winning elections.
If you can, please chip in any amount today to boost up my re-election campaign’s April fundraising efforts. Your support will help me defeat my own MAGA opponent and support my fellow Democrats who are going up against extreme, right-wing candidates.
Thank you so much for anything you’re able to give. Your support means a lot to me.
