COVID-19 is causing unspeakable pain for New York, and my heart goes out to every family member or friend going through grief in this time of social isolation.
For all the darkness inherent in this grief, it’s important to balance our perspective by acknowledging the heroic work being done by doctors, nurses, and other frontline medical professionals.
Every single shift they are knowingly putting themselves at risk to protect New Yorkers, and no matter how bad the day before was, they keep getting up and coming back to help more people.

Our health care heroes deserve our infinite gratitude for showing up and excelling under near-impossible conditions.
Every single day, I ask myself if I’m doing everything I can to ensure they get the equipment needed to keep themselves and patients safe. Saying thanks is the least we can do in the face of their amazing sacrifice.
