The North Carolina State Senate is moving on some terribly gerrymandered new voting maps, John, and it's because we lost the State Supreme Court. 

In 2022, Democrats controlled the court by a thin 4-3 margin, keeping MAGA Republicans at bay and protecting our rights. Then Republicans won both seats up for election.

Then in 2023 -- without a change in any facts related to the cases -- the now 5-2 Republican state Supreme Court has reversed major recent decisions, allowing extreme partisan gerrymandering and uber-strict voter I.D. laws. Now the new maps have come out, handing the GOP a chance to pick up at least three seats in the U.S. House next year.

With as tight as things are in Washington right now, those three seats could be the difference between flipping the House to progressives or empowering the same team that keeps sending extremists to roll back all our progress.

We NEED more progressives on the courts. Here's how:

➜ In 26 states -- including Florida, California, and Maine -- State Supreme Court justices are appointed. It's crucial that Democrats win and control governorships in these states to ensure progressive judges are nominated.

➜ In the other 22 states, like Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin, judges run in elections. We have to support progressive judicial candidates across the board to end the GOP domination of our state courts.

➜ We also need to pour resources into state legislatures who choose justices (like Virginia and South Carolina) or approve the judges nominated by the governors.
