Gov. Beshear Joins Paris Community To Break Ground on $2 Million Recycling Center

Project received grant from state; center will be moved away from residential areas

PARIS, Ky. (April 29, 2024) ? Today, Gov. Andy Beshear joined community members in Paris to break ground on a new recycling convenience center. The new recycling center will replace the current waste transfer station located in the West Side neighborhood. The new center will be away from residential areas.

The project received $2 million in funding from Kentucky?s Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program. The Governor and the General Assembly approved an additional $1.5 million for the project.

?Every Kentuckian deserves to live in a healthy and clean environment,? said Gov. Beshear. ?Today marks a huge step forward for Paris, and for the health and safety of Kentuckians. We?re investing in every community across the commonwealth as we build a brighter future for everyone.?

?This project is the culmination of a lot of hard work and leadership from our community members,? said Paris Mayor John Plummer. ?This is a milestone project for Paris and Bourbon County. Days like this are possible when local and state leaders work together for our people.?

The current transfer station sits at the end of a residential street. The flow of trash-hauling vehicles creates a hazard for those living along the street. The new recycling center will be located off Martin Luther King Boulevard, away from homes.

About the Community Development Block Grant Program
The CDBG program provides annual grants on a formula basis to states, cities and counties to develop viable urban communities by providing decent housing and a suitable living environment, and by expanding economic opportunities. CDBG funds are administered by the Department for Local Government.
