Team,
When Navy Captain Brett Crozier realized his crew on the USS Theodore Roosevelt were at risk, he raised an alarm to save lives.
Only three sailors were evacuated by the Navy after testing positive for COVID-19. But thousands of other sailors who may have been exposed were left onboard. In his letter to his superiors, Captain Crozier pleaded with the Navy to take the threat seriously, move most sailors off the ship and into quarantine, leave a small crew for maintenance, and clean the ship.
After Captain Crozier's letter was leaked, Acting Secretary of the Navy Thomas Modly finally took more aggressive action, but also fired Crozier. Modly told Crozier's former crew that he was "stupid" and called his actions to save lives a "betrayal."
The response to this scandal could set a dangerous precedent and put more soldiers and sailors at risk. Our service members stand up to protect us, it's the least we can do to care for their safety in return. That is all Captain Crozier was trying to do.
If you stand with Captain Crozier and support his decision to put the lives of his crew first, will you sign our petition? Add your name: "I stand with Captain Crozier."
This case of negligence by senior leadership when it comes to the health of our service members is shameful.
This is yet another instance where those who should be leading have failed to take the novel coronavirus pandemic seriously, and left it up to others to take action.
Captain Crozier was forced to make a difficult decision. Instead of putting his career first, he chose to prioritize the lives of his crew. But now, other leaders will see that if they do the same, they'll be forced to pay the price.
We need to show our military leaders that if they make difficult choices to save the lives of their subordinates, we'll stand with them. Add your name and show you're standing with Captain Crozier.
Thank you,
Team Kim
