Dear John,

Last week, we rallied at the Supreme Court for emergency abortion care. Oral arguments were heard in a pivotal case out of Idaho that can have catastrophic implications for pregnant people facing medical emergencies and emergency medical care as a whole.

I was proud to speak out alongside PRH Fellow Dr. Caitlin Gustafson, a family medicine physician in Idaho, and countless advocates to make one thing clear—abortion is life-saving care and SCOTUS must protect the Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act (EMTALA). Anyone being turned away for emergency care, including abortion care, for any reason is dangerous and indefensible.

We’re here to help you stay in the know about what’s at stake in this case:

-- Read PRH’s Amicus Brief featuring first-hand accounts from PRH doctors. We’re urging SCOTUS to protect EMTALA and detailing how abortion restrictions, including Idaho’s extreme abortion ban, can conflict with physicians’ responsibilities under this federal law.

As we await the Court’s decision in this case, as well as in the case threatening access to mifepristone in the coming months, PRH and our network of physician advocates across the country will keep showing up and doing the work to provide safe, compassionate, evidence-based care.

No matter the outcome—people who need abortions, support abortions, and provide abortions are not going anywhere.

Thank you,

Dr. Jamila Perritt | PRH President & CEO
