International Workers' Day, also known as May Day, commemorates the historic struggles and gains made by workers and the labor movement. This year's celebration is coming up on Wednesday and there are a number of actions and events coming up as part of it.

May Day: Wreath Laying Ceremony at the historic Mother Jones Historic Marker

On May Day, join the Labor Heritage Foundation to lay a wreath at the Mother Jones Historic Marker at Powder Mill Road & Riggs Road (near the Hillandale Baptist Church at 2601 Powder Mill Road) in Adelphi, MD.

May Day: Rally for a Fair Contract with UNITE HERE Local 25

International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE) Local 99 workers at The Wyndham National Harbor deserve fair treatment and on May Day they're taking that message to the streets. Join IUOE Local 99 members for a picket at National Harbor from 6:00-7:30 PM. RSVP to Eamon Clifford.

Labor leaders honor Key Bridge victims on Workers Memorial Day

Sunday was Workers Memorial Day, an annual day of remembrance for laborers killed or hurt on the job, started in 1989 by the AFL-CIO. Thousands of workers nationwide are estimated by the organization of labor unions to be injured or killed on the job each day.

As part of the day's commemoration, AFL-CIO's Liz Shuler and Metropolitan Baltimore Council AFL-CIO's Courtney Jenkins joined Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott and leaders from advocacy organizations and the faith community to remember the six workers killed in the collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge in March. Top: Thursday's Construction Workers' Memorial Mass at St. Camillus Church in Silver Spring was truly moving and inspirational. Members of LiUNA! Laborers Local 11, IUPAT Local 51, IBEW Local 26, Steamfitters 602, and Plumbers & Gasfitters Local 5 honored those who have paved the way and reminding us of the importance of safety and solidarity in our industry.
