Dear John,

You’re in the middle of a global pandemic.

People are struggling. Some are scared. The full impact of the coronavirus (COVID-19) is yet to be seen.

Does it sound like a good time to spread division and fear to you?

Sadly, that’s what the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) is doing.

Just a few weeks ago, as Americans came to grips with the reality of a near nationwide shutdown, the SPLC released its 2019 “Hate and Extremism” report.

This report lumps peaceful and mainstream Christian groups like Alliance Defending Freedom together with truly violent and racist groups.

And why has the SPLC labeled ADF as a “hate group”?

Because we successfully defend people who are living by their deeply held beliefs about marriage and human sexuality—beliefs shared by millions of people across the world.

John, this isn’t just an attack on ADF. It’s an attack on YOU and your faith.

Today, there is a movement that thinks your religious views are outdated, wrong, and must be shut down—even in the midst of a worldwide pandemic.

Most people would be powerless on their own to fight back when their freedom is threatened. But praise God that because of your generosity, those who share your views and care about religious freedom have hope. They have a team of attorneys who will stand with them and fight for them.

And right now, they’re counting on you to respond and help protect religious freedom for us all.

Will you prayerfully consider what you can give today to stand against the SPLC’s attacks?

The SPLC has revealed its true character

You often hear that in times of crisis, true character is revealed.

In these challenging times, people are focusing on taking care of their families, supporting our healthcare workers, and helping our neighbors. But some—including the SPLC—are using this time to threaten your religious freedom, the sanctity of life, and marriage and the family.
  • Across the nation, churches have cooperated with federal, state, and local governments in working to slow the spread of the coronavirus. But some government officials appear to be targeting churches—treating them less favorably than similar secular groups. Just last week, Mayor Bill de Blasio of New York City singled out churches and synagogues, threatening to “permanently” close them if they hold a worship service and don’t disperse.

  • There is a nationwide shortage of protective equipment for medical professionals—such as gloves and masks—that is endangering those fighting on the frontlines of the coronavirus outbreak. To help redirect these precious resources to those who need them most, some states have suspended all elective surgical procedures. Yet Planned Parenthood has gone to court, suing states in order to continue its life-ending business during these mass closures. To make matters even worse, some Planned Parenthood abortion facilities have asked for donations of scarce protective equipment for use during abortions!

  • As the hardest hit place in the U.S., hospitals in New York City are overwhelmed with COVID-19 patients. In response, Samaritan’s Purse, a Christian humanitarian aid organization, opened a field hospital in Central Park to assist hospitals in the area. But that didn’t sit well with some activist groups, including the SPLC. Rather than praising the lifesaving work Samaritan’s Purse is doing right now, a high-ranking SPLC official criticized the Christian nonprofit because it honors the biblical definition of marriage.
Not even a worldwide crisis can deter the SPLC and its allies from attacking your most cherished freedoms, John.

They won’t stop—and they’ve proven that time and time again.

Your tax-deductible gift today will help oppose those who are taking advantage of these challenging times to advance threats to your freedom.

When we stand together, we can win. We do win.

Opponents of religious freedom like the SPLC don’t just disagree with your beliefs—they want to silence them. They’ve made that abundantly clear.

The need is great for attorneys who can come alongside people of faith when their freedoms are threatened.

In fact, last year, ADF received over 4,000 legal requests.

Many of these calls come from people like you who are being threatened with punishment for living out their beliefs. They are small business owners, church members, and students—everyday people who simply want to honor God with their life and work.

They desperately need help to defend their God-given right to religious freedom. And because ADF doesn’t charge clients for the legal defense we provide, their fight wouldn’t be possible without you, John.

But the SPLC wants to crush ADF and our ability to respond to ongoing threats to your religious freedom. That’s why your help is needed now.

God is using your generous gifts to provide the resources we need to fight back.

And when we stand together in defense of faith and freedom, we can win. We do win.

With God’s blessing (John 15:5) and your faithful prayers and support, ADF has become one of America's most successful advocates at the U.S. Supreme Court, having won ten cases at the high court since 2011. And we're winning nearly 80% of all our cases.

Will you stand with us right now and make your gift to defend religious freedom today?

With every case you fund, every victory you help achieve, and every client you lift up in prayer, you ensure that more people of faith are free to live out their beliefs.

Thank you for standing for religious freedom. Your generosity is truly making a difference—for their freedom and yours.
