VIDEO OF THE DAY: Shocking scheme to sway election for Trump blows up
Republicans, always looking for ways to rig elections in favor of their god-king, are calling on Nebraska to upend the way it awards electoral votes. The state's current system allocates electoral votes by congressional district, which in practical terms almost always yields one electoral vote for the Democratic ticket from the very blue Omaha district. Hell-bent on handing the reins back to their MAGA cult leader, Republicans are now pushing Nebraska to abandon its long-standing system and adopt a winner-take-all allotment. Democrats in Maine, the only other state that allots electoral votes by congressional district, have warned that if Nebraska Republicans follow through with their nakedly partisan plan, they will have no choice but to respond in kind, thereby eliminating Republicans' hopes of peeling off a lone electoral vote in the northeast.

Louisiana Republicans say yes to child labor, nix lunch breaks for kids
The Pelican State joins Texas and Florida in a vile race to the bottom to see who can stick it to workers the worst. Last week, the Republican-dominated state House of Representatives in Louisiana voted 61-37 to repeal a law requiring employers to provide a 20-minute meal break to any minor who works more than five hours, or pay a $500 penalty. You read that correctly. Republicans bravely stood up and voted to do away with lunch breaks for kids. The enterprising Republican solution to proliferating labor violations is to simply repeal as many child-labor protections as they can get their hands on. No child-labor law, no child-labor violation! FaMiLy VaLuEs, y'all.
Take Action: Tell the GOP to repeal the laws keeping pregnant women from getting divorced!
GOP takes abortion extremism to shocking new low
WisDems: Under the GOP’s reign of anti-abortion terror, hospitals are turning pregnant patients away and leaving them to suffer from life-threatening complications — and Republicans have even gone to the Supreme Court to deny life-saving abortion care until the patient is literally on death’s door. This flies in the face of basic medical science, common sense, and human decency. Will you chip in to Wisconsin Democrats to help elect legislators who will restore reproductive rights and make sure that EVERYONE gets the healthcare they need?
Mitch McConnell refuses to say whether he supports a US national abortion ban
Spoiler alert: McConnell's personal opinions on a nationwide abortion ban actually matter very little. He'll absolutely support further stripping away reproductive rights simply because not doing so won't serve his desperate agenda of remaining evenly remotely relevant in today's morally rotten Republican Party.
Take Action: Reject Trump's national abortion ban!
Democratic Rep. Jared Moskowitz rips Marjorie Taylor Greene again: "We’re not going to let her take out the speaker"
Democrats might not be sold on the idea of saving Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson from an attempted intraparty ouster, but at least one isn't too keen on the idea of helping the hate-spewing QAnon congresswoman remove him. Speaking about Greene's threats to file a motion to vacate, Rep. Jared Moskowitz said letting "Marjorie Taylor Greene, someone who literally, you know, would let the world burn, you know, with her isolationist foreign policy who has talked about states seceding from the union" force yet another paralyzing House speakership battle was a nonstarter for him. Moskowitz, who has made a habit of gleefully trolling the Republican dingbat, added, "The idea of letting [Greene] sit in the people’s House and the well of Congress, giving a speech, removing any speaker and having that powerful moment, there is just no way Democrats are going to let her do that. I’m not going to let her do that. We won’t even let her name a post office. We’re not going to let her take out the speaker," Moskowitz said.
Take Action: Tell Congress to protect reproductive rights and repeal the Comstock Act!
Ron DeSantis kisses the ring
You knew it was coming. Ron DeSantis met with Donald Trump over the weekend to, uh, bury the proverbial hatchet the serially indicted cult leader used to bludgeon the Florida governor's presidential ambitions. Turns out Don needs Ron's wealthy donor list and Ron needs Don's blessing if he hopes to even think of running for higher office again. Oh, to be a fly on the wall of that groveling encounter.
Israeli officials concerned about possible ICC arrest warrants as pressure mounts over war in Gaza
Israeli officials appeared increasingly concerned that the International Criminal Court may issue arrest warrants against the country’s leaders, as international pressure mounts over the unrelenting war in Gaza and the unspeakable civilian death toll. New airstrikes overnight into Monday killed 25 more people in Rafah, according to hospital records. The deaths in Rafah included nine women and five children, one of whom was just 5 days old. Israel is planning an invasion of the city — though the United States and other allies have repeatedly warned against it, saying an offensive would spell catastrophe for the more than a million Palestinians sheltering there. Israel’s Foreign Ministry said late Sunday that it had informed Israeli missions of “rumors” that warrants might be issued against senior political and military officials. Foreign Minister Israel Katz said any such warrants would “provide a morale boost” to Hamas and other militant groups.
Trump suddenly faces NEW punishment
No Lie with Brian Tyler Cohen: Uh oh.
Florida "callously" strips healthcare from thousands of children despite new law
Florida Republicans, not to be outdone by their Louisiana counterparts, have ignored new federal legislation and disenrolled 22,500 children from Florida KidCare, the state's version of the government-subsidized Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) for families with earnings just above the threshold for Medicaid, since the beginning of 2024. It's good to know Gov. DeSantis is getting back to doing what he's always done best — targeting thousands of marginalized children in defiance of federal laws intended to protect them.
Sen. Lindsey Graham says he'll "absolutely" still support Trump even if convicted
Oh, Lindsey, we never doubted you for a second!
Pro-Palestinian protesters at UCLA tussle with Israel supporters
Protests at US universities showed no sign of slowing over the weekend, with more arrests on campuses across the country and skirmishes between pro-Israeli and pro-Palestinian demonstrators at UCLA, where a tent encampment was set up last week. As the size of the pro-Palestinian encampment at the University of California at Los Angeles expanded in recent days, counter-protesters have become increasingly vocal and visible on the campus, although both sides remained peaceful until Sunday. That changed when some demonstrators broke through a barrier that the school had set up to separate the two factions. Members of both factions shoved one another and shouted slogans and insults, and in some cases traded punches. Pushing and shoving persisted for some time among pockets of demonstrators, but campus police armed with batons eventually separated the sparring groups. Los Angeles police were not involved in quelling the disturbance, a representative of the campus police said, and no arrests had been made.
