Dear Friend,

WOW -- what an incredible Earth Month this has been.

In the past few weeks alone, we've celebrated monumental victories that will fight climate change, reduce toxic pollution, and better protect our wild and special places. Each and every one is a testament to the power of our movement, and the dedication and commitment that you contribute as a Sierra Club supporter.

I hope that you'll take the time to read about each victory below. None of it would have been possible without you, Friend.

And if you agree that these wins are an important, meaningful step towards a cleaner, healthier future for all, please consider

making a gift to the Sierra Club today to help strengthen our grassroots campaigns. The fossil fuel industry's allies in Congress are already preparing a series of votes that would drastically weaken many of these critical protections. We cannot allow them to undo this hard-won progress for the planet we all call home.

On behalf of everyone here at the Sierra Club: Thank you for standing with us this Earth Month, and every month. We're deeply grateful to have you in this fight with us.

– Ben Jealous, Executive Director

Wins for the Climate and Public Health

In a major victory for communities nationwide, the Environmental Protection Agency finalized four historic protections that will slash air, water, and carbon pollution from power plants:

- Carbon Pollution Standards will limit pollution from existing coal-fired power plants and new gas plants, reducing emissions that worsen the climate crisis as well as other dangerous compounds.

- Mercury and Toxic Air Standards will protect vulnerable communities from toxic air pollution, including heavy metals and mercury.

- Coal Wastewater Standards will reduce the amount of toxic pollutants and heavy metals, including mercury and arsenic, discharged by coal-fired power plants into our rivers and lakes.

- Coal Ash Pollution Rules will protect groundwater and communities from dangerous coal ash landfills and ash dumps that leak toxic pollutants into our waterways.

Wins for Wildlife and Public Lands

Our conservation efforts saw decisive victories with three important measures that will better protect our public lands, alongside a win against the destructive Ambler Road project in Alaska:

- The Public Lands Rule will set a new vision for managing our public lands for the benefit of people and the planet, after decades of prioritizing drilling, mining, and logging.

- The Oil and Gas Rule will make sure fossil fuel industry CEOs can no longer rake in huge profits from oil and gas leasing on public lands, while making taxpayers clean up the messes they leave behind.

- The Western Arctic Rules will protect a whopping 13 million acres of the fragile Arctic ecosystem from devastating oil and gas drilling, an area of public lands half the size of Indiana.

- The Biden administration blocked Ambler Road, a controversial proposal from mining companies to build a road across more than 200 miles of Alaska wilderness that would have caused irreversible harm to landscapes, local communities and wildlife.

Wins for Clean Energy

This month, solar energy shined bright. On Earth Day, the Biden administration announced $7 billion in funding for projects that will bring solar to all, lowering energy costs and reducing pollution in low-income communities across the country.

These historic actions are the result of decades of advocacy from supporters like you. Thank you again for joining us in this critical work.
