Dear friend of EMET,

Many people have complained to us that during this period of quarantine and isolation, that they have time on their hands, and would like to do something constructive to help us in our efforts. Now is a great time to become a citizen activist.
While we are all quarantined to our homes, we at EMET have continued working on some critically important issues through frequent conference calls with staffers from congressional offices and webinars featuring our treasure trove of experts.

We would like to provide a brief background on two particular issues that we are advocating and ask that you contact your representative to urge them to sign on our letters related to these matters. We have provided below a suggested text and attached the two letters, together with some information on how you might be able to reach your member of Congress.
1. Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) and Hizballah

After the 2006 war between Israel and Hizballah, the United States started providing military assistance to the Lebanese Armed Forces to act as leverage against Iranian-backed Hizballah, which is listed with our State Department as a terrorist organization. It contravenes American law to provide funds to a known terrorist organization. The United States is providing the LAF with over $100 million of military assistance a year. According to Professor Efraim Inbar from the Jerusalem Institute for Strategy and Security, the Lebanese Armed Forces has become virtually indistinguishable from Hizballah. There is now a growing body of evidence that shows the LAF is giving their uniforms to Hizballah, executing joint patrols, and that some of US-made arms and equipment have actually ended up in the hands of Hizballah.

Also after the 2006 War in Lebanon, the United nations passed security resolution 1701 which said that all foreign forces have got to leave Lebanon, south of the Litani River. Israel immediately complied, and painted the stones blue. That is the etiology of the term “the blue line.” Unfortunately, Iranian-backed Hizballah has stayed and has gradually increased more and more control of the government and the Lebanese Armed Forces, so much so that in the last elections a Hizballah sympathizer, Hassan Diab, was elected Prime Minister, and two important ministries in the Lebanese government are controlled by Hizballah.

It is important to remember that Hizballah is no ordinary terrorist organization. Hizballah possesses 150,000 missiles, an arsenal larger than many countries, and has two ministerial positions in the Lebanese government. We are concerned that taxpayers’ money is unintentionally funding a terrorist organization, causing the destabilization of the region, and inadvertently helping to reinforce Iranian control of the Middle East.

Rep. Greg Steube (R-FL 17) has agreed to take the lead on a Congressional letter we intend on sending to Secretary Pompeo. In the letter we call for the freeze of any further military assistance to the LAF until a thorough investigation is done so that we are sure beyond any doubt that Hizballah does not benefit from our aid directly or indirectly.
2. Ahlam Tamimi

Ahlam Tamimi, on the Most Wanted Terrorists list of the FBI, is the Hamas terrorist who was responsible for the heinous Sbarro Pizzeria bombing on August 9, of 2001, murdering 15 innocent people, eight of them children. Among them were two US citizens; Judith Greenbaum (31) who was pregnant at the time, and Malki Roth (15). A third, Chana Nachenberg, remains in a permanent vegetative state. Tamimi is supremely proud of what she did. She has confessed on YouTube multiple times. In fact, while in jail in Israel, she was asked if she knew how many Israeli children she had killed. Her response was, “I don’t know, maybe three.” When the interviewer responded that she had killed eight, a huge smile graced her face. “Eight?” She responded jubilantly. “I killed eight Jewish children!”

After being released from Israel, along with 1,026 other Hamas terrorists “with blood on their hands” in the 2011 Gilad Shalit prisoner exchange, she was welcomed in Jordan like a conquering hero, and had been given her own television show, and even appears on secular Jordanian television where she is given “rock star status.”

The US has requested the extradition of Ms. Tamimi but Jordan has refused, despite the fact that Jordan has extradited three other lesser known terrorists to our shores in accordance to our 1995 extradition treaty. Israel signed a peace treaty with Jordan in 1994, yet King Abdullah, and his predecessor King Hussein have done nothing to sow the societal groundwork toward peace.

Israel gives Jordan constant support in high tech, agriculture, water technology and health care, and the US gives a sum of $1.7 billion in foreign aid a year to the Hashemite Kingdom. However, for far too long this has been a one-way street. We are concerned that if were to not extradite this terrorist, we would be telegraphing to the world that certain American lives are less valuable than others, and that we are turning a blind eye towards terrorism. The financial assistance we provide the Jordanian Kingdom should be leveraged to promote justice, such as in cases like this.

Rep. Greg Steube (R-FL 17) has agreed to take the lead on a Congressional letter we intend on sending to the Jordanian Ambassador to the US, Ms. Dina Kawar. In the letter we call for the Hashemite Kingdom to provide answers and extradite Ahlam Tamimi to the US.

We ask you, our dear supporters and friends of EMET, to contact the office of your Representative and Senators, and encourage them to sign on to the letters. For your convenience, we have drafted a suggested email below and have included a copy of both letters to this email (please remember to download a copy of each letter from the links listed immediately below, and attach a copy of both letters to your emails). We would also appreciate you circulating this among your friends. Please also feel free to use any of the facts that we have outlined above in your letters.

Dear <>,

I would like to encourage <> to sign on to two Congressional letters of great importance to the US foreign policy, attached to this email. The first letter is addressed to Ambassador Dina Kawar of Jordan, regarding their refusal of an extradition request of a terrorist, Ahlam Tamimi, who has killed American citizens. The second letter is addressed to Secretary Mike Pompeo about the US finding of the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) in light of their cozy relationship with Hizballah.

Congressman Greg Steube has agreed to take the lead on these letters. Should your boss like to sign onto any letter, I ask that you please contact his staffer, Twinkle Patel [email protected] (mailto:[email protected]) .
